Zbojská Lookout Tower

Observation tower

The dominant feature of the Zbojská pass is a beautiful lookout tower, the architecture of which resembles the mill from the movie Perinbaba. Built of wood on the site of a former shepherd's hut, it stands 763 meters above sea level on the Remetisko hill. Together with the Zbojská pass, it serves as the gateway to the Muránska Planina National Park. You can reach it in a few minutes from the parking lot next to it.

The lookout tower also enchants with its interior. On its ground floor there is a small chapel of St. George with a separate entrance. On the first floor there are exhibits of local fauna - taxidermied forest animals. On the second floor there are commemorative chronicles, guarded by a wooden statue of a hermit. The third floor is dedicated to the history of banditry, which gave the saddle its name.

On the top floor, at a height of 13 meters, there is a viewing platform with a bell that you can ring. Steep stairs will take you to breathtaking views of the Zbojská pass, Čertova dolina, Kučalach hill and Fabova hola, from under which the Rimava and Rohozná rivers spring.

Nearby

Near the lookout tower, there is also a nature trail named after the famous outlaw Jakub Surovec. According to legend, thanks to it, he was able to avoid the gendarmes through the Devil's Valley, through which a one-way section of the trail passes. The most difficult sections of this gorge, reminiscent of the Slovak Paradise gorge, are equipped with wooden ladders that make the crossing easier.

Next to the observation tower, there is also a wooden photo point in the design of the Muránska plain with a 3D symbol of the national park's endemic species - the Lykovec muránsky.
