Tisovec rack railway

Zubačka Tisovec

The line between Tisovec and Pohronská Polhora was declared a National Cultural Monument in 2008. Its history dates back to the 19th century, when its construction began. It is exceptional mainly thanks to the rack railway, which overcomes the Zbojská mountain pass at an altitude of 725 meters above sea level, with a maximum gradient of up to 50.2 ‰.

A ride on a historic train is an unforgettable experience for visitors, taking place during the summer tourist season on selected weekends. It will appeal to history and nature lovers, as well as all ages, who decide to make their weekend more enjoyable by visiting this unique track.

Rack Railway Museum

The Rack Railway Museum at the train station in Tisovec is also worth a visit. Both children and adults will find something to enjoy here. Thanks to the unique exhibits and photographs, you will learn much more about the history and construction of this unique piece of architecture.

As part of the exhibition, visitors can also watch a new documentary charting the history of the rack railway.

The museum is open during summer rides on the "Robber Express" adventure trains and by appointment at:
