The Muránska Planina Dark Sky Park was declared with the aim of informing the general public and experts about the exceptionally preserved night environment in this area, educating on the issue of protecting the night environment and light pollution, and promoting and protecting the dark night sky. This is the basis for protecting the natural environment from light pollution, which is a serious environmental problem and also a necessary condition for quality nighttime astronomical observations.
